Daily Maintenance of Outrigger Hydraulic Cylinder

Daily Maintenance of Outrigger Hydraulic Cylinder

The outrigger hydraulic cylinder is a key load-bearing component for construction machinery, such as cranes, pump trucks and truck-mounted cranes. It supports the whole machine weight, ensures working stability and guarantees construction safety. Correct daily operation and regular maintenance can effectively prevent oil leakage, cylinder stuck, automatic retraction and insufficient stretching force, and greatly extend the service life of the outrigger cylinder.

1. Daily Operation Notes

Before operation, check the outrigger cylinder appearance, piston rod surface and surrounding area. Remove stones, mud, iron bars and other obstacles to avoid scratching or impacting the piston rod. Damaged plating will quickly cause seal wear and oil leakage.

Always operate the outriggers slowly and smoothly. Do not drop the outriggers violently or allow hard impact contact with the ground. Make sure the supporting ground is firm and flat. Working on soft, hollow or uneven ground will cause lateral force and eccentric load, resulting in piston rod bending, cylinder deformation and internal leakage.

Overload operation is strictly prohibited. Long-term overpressure work will accelerate aging of sealing parts, cause pressure loss and lead to slow sinking or automatic retraction of outriggers.

After work, fully retract all outrigger cylinders to the standard position to avoid long-time exposure of the piston rod, which prevents rust, dust accumulation and seal aging.

2. Daily Inspection

- Check the piston rod surface for rust, scratches, dents or coating damage.

- Inspect all sealing positions, pipe joints and flange surfaces for oil seepage or leakage.

- Observe whether the outrigger lifting and lowering speed is stable, without lag, jitter or sinking.

- Check the dust cover for damage to prevent dust, water and sediment from entering the cylinder interior.

3. Regular Maintenance

Keep the cylinder surface clean and dry. Wipe dust, mud and water stains regularly, especially on the exposed piston rod. Clean environment effectively protects the seals and internal precision parts.

Check hydraulic oil quality and oil level regularly. Use standard hydraulic oil and avoid deteriorated, mixed or inferior oil, which will cause valve blockage and internal cylinder wear.

Check all hydraulic pipelines for aging, cracking and loose connections. Fasten loose joints in time to prevent pressure drop and oil leakage.

Lubricate movable parts periodically to ensure flexible expansion and contraction.

4. Fault Prevention & Precautions

If abnormal noise, slow movement, oil leakage or outrigger sinking occurs, stop operation immediately and check the equipment. Do not work with faulty cylinders.

Do not disassemble the outrigger cylinder privately. Internal pressure structure and sealing assembly require professional tools and standardized replacement.

Avoid long-term external pressure and unilateral stress on the outriggers during construction.

5. Maintenance Summary

Standard daily inspection and scientific maintenance can keep the outrigger hydraulic cylinder in stable working condition, eliminate hidden dangers, reduce failure rate, ensure construction safety and prolong equipment service life.
