How to Prolong the Service Life of Hydraulic Cylinders

1. Standardize Operating Behaviors

- Strictly follow the rated load limit. Never overload the cylinder for lifting or pushing tasks, as excessive pressure will deform the hydraulic cylinder barrel and accelerate seal wear.

- Avoid violent operations such as sudden lifting, dropping or reversing the control valve. Hydraulic shock will damage internal components and shorten the lifespan drastically.

- Do not keep the cylinder fully stretched or compressed under sustained pressure for a long time when the machine is idle. Release residual pressure after work.

- Prevent hard collisions from farm tools, stones or other heavy objects to avoid scratches and bending on the piston rod.

2. Daily Inspection & Cleaning Work

- Check the piston rod surface every day before startup. Clear mud, straw, sand and corrosive dirt in time. Scratches on the rod will quickly abrade sealing rings and cause oil leakage.

- Inspect all sealing parts, joints and pipe connections for oil seepage. Replace aging, cracked or hardened seals immediately instead of continuing operation.

- Keep the dust cover intact. The wiper seal can block impurities from entering the hydraulic cylinder interior effectively.

3. Scientific Maintenance of Hydraulic Oil

- Use only the hydraulic oil type recommended by the equipment manufacturer. Never mix different brands or types of oil.

- Check the oil level regularly and keep it between the minimum and maximum scale marks. Low oil level leads to air mixing and cavitation erosion inside the cylinder.

- Replace hydraulic oil and filter elements on schedule. Dirty oil contains metal debris that scuffs the cylinder inner wall and piston assembly. Replace emulsified, deteriorated oil right away.

- Prevent rainwater, dust and foreign contaminants from entering the hydraulic tank through the filler cap.

4. Proper Storage & Seasonal Protection

- Before long-term parking or winter storage, retract the piston rod fully into the cylinder body to minimize exposed metal area and prevent rusting. Apply anti-rust grease on tiny exposed sections if needed.

- In cold weather, run the engine at idle speed to preheat the hydraulic system before heavy loads. Low-temperature thick oil brings extra friction to moving parts.

- For machines left unused for months, perform slow telescopic movements of the cylinder every 1 to 2 months and recheck for leakage and rust.

5. Professional Disassembly & Repair Rules

- Do not disassemble the hydraulic cylinder casually without professional tools and a clean environment, which may introduce pollutants.

- Choose original matching accessories when replacing seals, bearings or guide sleeves. Inferior spare parts will cause secondary damage.

- Once faults like jamming, slow movement or serious leakage appear, stop working timely and arrange professional overhaul instead of forced use
